NYC Council Members
Adrienne Adams, NYC Council Speaker
Dear Council Member,
I am writing to you to express extreme concern about the City of Yes Housing Opportunity. We are vehemently opposed to this poorly designed plan. It paints a very rosy picture and is a fabricated version of the truth, one that will permanently destroy our community here in Northeast Queens.
You see, communities around NYC are very well educated to the fact that single and two family zonings will be eliminated, making way for large apartment size dwellings, ADU’s, and basement, garage, and attic dwellings. To propose all this without any mandated parking regulations, no infrastructure upgrades, or considerations to school seats is ill-conceived. All of these changes are welcomed only by real estate interests who will be charging market rate for these dwellings. For NYC Dept. of Planning to believe the Housing Opportunity will solve NYC’s housing crisis is naive. NYC has been in a housing crisis since 1948.
NYC has varying needs, where each borough and town possess their own unique characteristics and charm and should be treated as such. The City of Yes is a deregulatory one-size fits all approach that unfairly targets single family homeowners and does not represent equitable change.
The NBCA is particularly concerned with Transit Oriented Development, (TOD) which will decimate our neighborhood with the addition of very high density dwellings. We are a small community, already with 3 four story apartment buildings within 2 blocks of each other. TOD will extend zoning for very high density homes within half mile of the LIRR Auburndale station, which will result in an unfair overburdening of our community.
With consideration of the above made points, I am respectfully urging your NO VOTE to the City of Yes Housing Opportunity.
Sincerely,
<your name here>
